Billing Practices

Spring is a perfect time to do a little practice clean‑up. As you tidy up files and refresh routines, it’s also a great opportunity to review the College’s practice guidelines on billing, linked here. While many of the principles will be familiar, a refresher can help ensure your billing practices remain aligned with expectations.

One key reminder: billing may only occur after services have been provided. Billing in advance, including submitting claims for dentures before they are inserted, is not permitted. Members may only charge for care that has been delivered. Taking time now to clean up billing practices can help prevent patient complaints, avoid findings of unprofessional conduct, and reduce the risk of consequences such as the loss of direct billing privileges with insurers.
