All regulated members on the general register are required to complete continuing competence requirements starting from January 1 of the year following their initial registration with the College. With the changes imparted by Bill 46, the College’s authority to administer a Continuing Competence Program (CCP) lies in the Health Professions Act and the College Bylaws and Standards of Practice. This change was effective March 31, 2023.
As a result of the change, denturist are reminded that effective March 31, 2023, hours reflecting personal learning are no longer accepted as part of a regulated member’s CCP. They are accepted up to and including March 30, 2023. All other requirements remain in place including the requirement to provide a self-reflection or certificate of completion (with your name on it) for each activity. This means, if you count your CPR renewal for your CCP, you must upload your CPR certificate to the CCP Record. If you are selected to undergo validation of your CCP, the committee does not have access to your CPR records and so are not provided with the proof of your CPR recertification.
Starting this fall, the Registration Committee will be reviewing the College’s current CCP and updating it to reflect best practice in this area. The committee will be receiving education on these best and alternate practices as well as looking to see what is being instituted with other Colleges.
Should you have any questions about the CCP or denturists’ requirements under it, please do not hesitate to contact the College.
