From October 1 to November 30, 2026, denturists may renew their practice permit for 2027.
Denturists are required to complete the online portion of the renewal and pay the required fees for 2027. Please remember that the renewal form is a legal document and is binding. Any omissions or falsifications may have impact on your registration as a denturist. It is unlawful for anyone but the regulated member to complete the renewal process.
As per the legislation and the College Bylaws, those who wish to continue to practice as a denturist in Alberta next year are required to make application for the renewal of their practice permit. Please remember that the practice of denturist is not restricted to providing direct patient services, but includes the following:
For 2027, practice permit fees for general and provisional registration remain unchanged at $2450 + GST. This is payable at the time of renewal by credit card (VISA, MasterCard, American Express) or e-transfer (please send to office@abdenturists.ca – no password required). A registration renewal will not be approved until the College has received the required fees and documentation.
What are my regulatory responsibilities?
There are three main areas in which the College expects regulated members to be compliant.
This year we are also requiring all denturists to update their retirement intentions.
Professional Liability Insurance
It is a requirement of registration as a regulated health professional in Alberta to have professional liability insurance (PLI) at a level prescribed by Council. You have the flexibility to attain your own insurance.
There are organizations, such as the Denturists Association of Alberta, which have a comprehensive policy available to you. You are required to upload your PLI certificate (not receipt) in order for your renewal to be considered complete. You can either upload it when you complete your renewal, or after, but on or before November 30, 2026.
Continuing Competence Program
It is a requirement of the legislation that all members be compliant with the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) in order to renew their practice permit. You will be asked to declare that you are in compliance for the current year (i.e., 2026) when completing your renewal for 2027.
Currency of Practice
As per policy, all members must retain currency of practice. What this means is that within the immediately preceding five years, a denturist must have logged at least 1200 practice hours of denturism to be considered current.
New graduates and provisional members may be considered current without meeting this requirement. Contact the College if you have questions about your currency.
How do I renew?
On the website home page, you will see the registrant login icon. Log into your profile and you will see the “Renewal” option in the top right-hand corner. Should you have any questions or can’t quite find something, please do not hesitate to contact the College.
What if I don’t renew within the renewal window?
The renewal window closes at 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2026. Those who have not renewed by then will be subject to a $400 administrative fee on top of your practice permit fee. Your renewal must be approved by the Registrar in order to have a valid practice permit on January 1, 2027. Members are reminded that the College will be closed over the holiday season and processing times will be slower.
Pursuant to the Health Professions Act, those who have not renewed by December 1, 2026, will receive a 30-day notice of suspension of their practice permit.
What if I don’t renew by December 31?
Your practice permit will be suspended for up to 30 days after which it will be cancelled, as per the HPA, if you do not complete the renewal or reinstatement process by this date. You cannot practice while under suspension or cancellation.
Starting January 1, if you are suspended, you will be required to reinstate your practice permit in order to continue to practice in 2027. For this, there is an additional $400 fee. You will not be permitted to practice while the application is in process and until it is approved by the Registrar.
