As the College moves to make the Continuing Competence Program (CCP) more meaningful and appropriate to the practice of a denturist in 2021, Council has approved CCP Rules that allow for a self-reflection on a learning activity rather than having to provide a certificate, or other proof, of completion.
Self-reflection is a statement that explains how the learning that you did has had, or may in the future, impact on your practice. This doesn’t have to be an essay, or even a paragraph, but it has to be clear.
A self-reflection is:
- Clear
- To the point
- An explanation of how the learning you did has had or may in the future impact your role as a denturist
- Required, if you do not have a certificate of completion or other proof of the learning
A self-reflection is not:
- A reiteration of what the activity was
- Meant to be onerous – you did the learning for a reason, so explain that reason
- Required, if you have a certificate of completion or other proof of the learning
Examples
- Activity: I took a QuickBooks course online through…
- Self-reflection: I am implementing QuickBooks in my clinic and now I am able to facilitate payment more efficiently to my vendors
- Activity: I attended the NAIT precepting course
- Self-reflection: I have a third-year denturist student in my clinic and now I am able to provide them with effective feedback in alignment with what NAIT requires
- Activity: I researched xerostomia treatments
- Self-reflection: I am now able to provide information and options for patients who I see with xerostomia
