Recent Grads and Students: What can they do?

At this time of year, we have a crop of new denturist graduates and students completing their yearly studies. They are undoubtedly looking to gain some experience in the field, but what are they able to do in the clinic and what can they not?

New Grads

If someone has graduated, they cannot work in a clinic seeing patients or in the lab without a valid practice permit from the College. They are however, able to work between graduation and receiving exam marks with a provisional practice permit. All grads have been informed of this.

The application process is straightforward and if they have any questions, have them reach out to the College directly.

Students finishing first or second year

There are also students out there who are on their summer break. Although it is recognized that it may be beneficial for them to gain experience, it is unlawful for them to provide restricted activities to the public. This includes clinical services and working in the lab.

In 2020, Council released a position statement on this. It may be found on the College website at this link: Position Statement: Students Performing Restricted Activities.

Questions

If any student or denturist has questions about what is required and what they can and cannot do, please do not hesitate to contact the College via phone 780.429.2330 or via email info@abdenturists.ca.
