Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification

College legislation stipulates that individuals making an application for registration as a regulated member, and all regulated members making an application for renewal of a practice permit, possess current cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification (CPR) at a level required by Council.

CPR required level of training

Council requires that regulated members hold current CPR certification. This course must include:

  • Didactic learning and assessment
  • Hands-on training and assessment for CPR for adult, child and infant
  • Hands-on training for effective ventilation using a barrier device
  • Hands-on training for an automated external defibrillator
  • Hands-on training for relief of foreign-body airway obstruction for adult, child and infant

Currency of certification

Individuals are expected to hold current certification at all times. Members are required to ensure recertification prior to certificate expiry.

If the CPR certification that is acquired, by the regulated member, has no assigned expiry from the course provider, the College requires that the regulated member recertify at least every two years.

Evidence

Members are required to ensure a copy of their current CPR certification card is uploaded to the College’s registration system. This certificate should include:

  • Member’s name
  • Name of issuing organization
  • Name of course completed
  • Date of completion of certification
  • Date of expiration of certification
  • Signature of authorized CPR instructor
