The College has recently received calls, letters, and formal complaints about the way some denturists are interacting with patients and clients. This includes sharing strong personal viewpoints on politics, world events, COVID-19, and other sensitive topics of discussion. We all know that things have been far from “normal” these past few years, but it’s important to keep the focus on regulatory excellence. This includes maintaining professionalism in the workplace with both colleagues and patients.
Denturists should avoid starting “hot button” conversations while providing care to patients and clients and be mindful to redirect such conversations that are initiated by patients and clients. During your practice, it’s important to follow the College’s Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice to ensure you’re meeting your regulated obligations. As a regulated healthcare professional, it is your responsibility to offer a safe and inclusive space for all Albertans to receive treatment and care.
The College is here to provide as much support and guidance as we can. Contact us if you’re struggling with a patient or client or have questions about the Code of Ethics or Standards of Practice.
