Complaints & Liability Release Form

In certain instances, denturists or other health professionals may request that a patient or client sign a release form related to complaints and liability. This can occur, for example, when a patient or client is seeking reimbursement due to dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the service or product received.

Typically, these release forms are intended to address financial matters and may include clauses aimed at avoiding legal actions. It’s worth noting, however, that some forms may include clauses attempting to limit the patient or client’s ability to voice concerns, with this College, about the care they received.

While individuals have the option to sign forms with such clauses and choose not to pursue a complaint, it is important to note that signing the form does not negate the patient or client’s right to file a complaint under the Health Professions Act.

In situations where the College receives a release form with a clause limiting the right to complain as part of a complaint, the denturist may potentially face additional allegations of unprofessional conduct. Creating a release form without such a clause could be considered a mitigating factor in the decision-making process for the College.
