Fair Registration Practices Act

On March 1, 2020, the Fair Registration Practices Act came into force in Alberta. This new legislation:

  • Applies to all regulated professions, both within and outside the realm of health services
  • provided the authority to create a Fairness for Newcomers Office
  • ensures registration practices by regulators (both within and outside health) are transparent, objective, impartial and fair
  • requires that regulatory bodies
    • assess applications and communicate assessment decisions within specific time frames for interim registration decisions and within reasonable time frames for final registration decisions
    • submit reports regarding fair registration practices to the Minister of the act
  • requires training in fair registration processes for anyone involved in registration decisions.  This includes the Registrar, Registration Committee and Council (as they are an appellate body for registration decisions).

Through these additional meta-regulatory measures, all the health Colleges are working together to ensure that the information that they are providing to the public is transparent and objective and presented in a manner that is understandable to any applicant.

As a result, you will see a few changes to our website in the coming weeks.  Working groups have been struck and we are working virtually as best we can.

Should you have any questions about this new act and its impact on the College, please do not hesitate to contact Dacia at drichmond@abdenturists.ca.
